LG Regulation holds fast food forum to reduce litter

22 July 2010

Fast food litter is a big problem for councils nationally, both in terms of cost of cleaning it up and the council’s reputation if it is not done satisfactorily. To provide a forum for debate and an opportunity for the industry to work more closely with councils, LG Regulation, then known as LACORS, convened a “Fast Food Forum” on 28 June chaired by Councillor Terry Stacy from Lg Regulation’s Board and attended by McDonalds, Greggs, Starbucks and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Also in attendance were senior council officers from LG Regulation's Streetscene Policy Forum and representatives from Keep Britain Tidy and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England. All attendees felt the forum had been rewarding with willingness from industry to support a national litter campaign and work in partnership with councils and the voluntary sector.

LG Regulation will investigate potential initiatives around recycling of paper cups across the industry, and sourcing and promoting examples of best practice.
