The first agreement on what is ‘excellence’ in delivering outcomes for councils regulatory services was today launched at the Regulatory Services Year Ahead conference in Leicestershire.
The Excellence Framework document was developed in cooperation between LACORS, the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO), councils, national regulators, central government and professional bodies.
The document is designed to help councils review their delivery of the key local regulatory services, identifying strengths, and areas of excellence and innovation that can be shared with other councils or it can help identify areas where the service may need to improve.
Council regulatory services must be able to focus on what is important locally. It is essential that these services are not burdened by unnecessary controls and centrally driven performance frameworks which deflect councils from developing and delivering frontline services, or reduce their ability to respond to the key challenges that they and their communities face.
This Excellence Framework reflects and incorporates national expectations and priorities for local regulatory services, but in a way that allows them to use their precious local resource to deliver real positive outcomes for local people and their communities.
